Cristina was snuggled safely in her room, watching a summer storm paint the sky. A brilliant flash of lightning lit up everything for a second, and Cristina started to count, "One-mississippi, two-mississippi, three..." BOOM! A loud rumble of thunder shook the windows. She noticed this happened every time: the flash, then a pause, then the boom. Puzzled, she turned to her mom and asked, "Why do I see the lightning flash before I hear the thunder when they happen at the same time?"
