By creating an account and using ZunoTales, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

We collect information necessary to provide and improve our personalized storytelling and educational services. The information collected varies based on your role as a 'Parent' or 'Educator'.

A. Information You Provide to Us

  • Account Information: When you register, we collect your name, email address, country of residence, and your role (Parent or Educator).
  • Parent User - Child Profile Information: To personalize stories, parents may create profiles for their children which include their first name, age, gender (optional), interests, and an optional avatar image.
  • Educator User - Classroom & Student Information: To use our classroom features, educators provide a classroom name and may create profiles for their students, which include the student's first name, age, and gender.
  • User-Generated Content: This includes prompts for story generation, text written in "Young Author Mode," and comments on stories.
  • Communications: If you contact us, we may collect your name, email, and the content of your message.

B. Information We Collect Automatically

  • Usage Information: We log interactions with our services, such as features used, stories created, and analytics viewed, to improve our platform.
  • Language & Log Information: We automatically detect your browser's language preference to provide a localized experience. We also collect standard log data like IP address and browser type for security and debugging.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain our services.
  • Personalize story content using profile data (e.g., child's name, age, interests).
  • For Educators, to manage classroom rosters and facilitate educational activities.
  • Process your inputs through third-party AI models (e.g., Google's Gemini) to generate story text, images, and audio narration.
  • Generate aggregated, anonymized developmental analytics for parents and classroom-wide analytics for educators.
  • Communicate with you, including for customer support and service updates.
  • Enforce our Terms of Service and protect the security of our platform.

3. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K Compliance)

ZunoTales is intended for use by adults (Parents and Educators) on behalf of children. We do not knowingly solicit or collect personal information directly from children under the age of 16 (or the relevant age of consent in your jurisdiction) without verifiable parental consent.

  • Verifiable Consent: By creating a child or student profile, you represent that you are the parent, legal guardian, or an educator with the necessary school-provided consent (e.g., under FERPA in the U.S.) to provide this information.
  • Parental/Guardian Rights: You have the right to review, update, or delete the personal information associated with your child's profile at any time through your dashboard. You can also refuse to permit further collection or use of your child's information by deleting their profile.

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with third parties only in the following circumstances:

  • With AI Service Providers: To generate stories, we send prompts and relevant, non-personally-identifying context (like age and interests) to our AI service providers (e.g., Google). Their use of data is governed by their respective privacy policies.
  • With Service Providers: We use vendors for essential infrastructure like hosting and databases (e.g., Google Cloud, Firebase). They only have access to information as needed to perform these tasks on our behalf.
  • For Legal Reasons: We may disclose information if required by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.

5. Data Retention & Your Rights

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. You have several rights regarding your data:

  • Right to Access & Portability: You can request an export of all your personal data. This can be done from your account Settings page.
  • Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your account Settings page. This is an irreversible process that will permanently remove your user profile, all child or student profiles, stories, and associated media from our systems.

6. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures, including encryption, to protect your data. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

7. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and maintained on computers located outside of your jurisdiction. Your consent to this Privacy Policy, followed by your submission of such information, represents your agreement to that transfer.

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this policy periodically.
